Sitemap compare
Enter two sitemap URLs and we'll show you exactly what changed.
Diffs two sitemaps and reports what was added, removed and kept. Run it before and after a migration and the removed list is your redirect checklist.
How it works
- 1
Both sitemaps are fetched and parsed into URL sets.
- 2
We compute three sets: URLs only in the second, URLs only in the first, and URLs in both.
- 3
The removed list is the important one — every entry needs a redirect or it becomes a 404.
Questions about this tool
- When is this most useful?
- Immediately before and after a replatform. The URLs that vanish are the ones that will 404 for anyone holding a link, and they are almost always more numerous than anyone expects.
- Can I compare a staging site to production?
- Yes, as long as both sitemaps are publicly reachable. Bear in mind the hostnames will differ, so every URL will read as changed — compare paths rather than full URLs in that case.
