What is a knowledge gap in customer support?
A knowledge gap is a question customers ask that a business's published content does not answer, revealed when an automated system has to refuse.
Every refusal is a record of something customers want to know and the website does not say. Collected over a month, those refusals become a ranked list of what is missing, ordered by how many people asked — which is a content brief nobody had to guess at.
Why it matters
This is the part of support automation that keeps paying after the novelty wears off. Answers save time once each; gaps improve the website permanently, for every visitor, including the ones who never open a chat window and the search engines reading the page. Gaps fall into three kinds, and the right response differs. Missing information means the answer exists in someone's head and not on any page — write it. Unfindable information means the page exists but does not match how people ask — rewrite the heading in the customer's words. Genuinely out of scope means the question is about an order, an account or a person, and no page will ever answer it — route it to a human and stop counting it as a failure.
Examples
- Forty people asked about VAT on international orders; the shipping page never mentions tax.
- Repeated questions about 'setup fees' matching a page that calls it 'onboarding investment'.
- Questions about individual order status, which belong to a human and not to a page.

Unanswered question
A single unanswered question may be a one-off. A gap is a pattern — the same missing thing asked repeatedly.

What is deflection rate in customer support?
If a thousand people ask something in a month and seven hundred get what they needed without a person, deflection is seventy percent. It is the headline number for whether support automation is doing anything, and it is the number most often reported wrong.

What is a citation in an AI answer?
A cited answer tells the reader not just what the answer is but where it came from. In a customer-facing system, that link is usually a page on the business's own website, so following it is both a verification step and a way further into the site.

What is a handoff in customer support?
Every automated support system needs a way out, and the quality of that exit matters as much as the answers. A good handoff carries the transcript, so the customer is not asked to repeat what they already typed — which is the single most common complaint about support automation, and one that is entirely avoidable.

Website FAQ generator
Reads your website, extracts any FAQ content already published, and drafts the questions your pages answer but never state as questions. Output is copy-paste ready.
use case
FAQ automation that uses your real pages
A static FAQ page ages badly and never quite matches how people phrase things. Reading your whole site instead means the answer to a question can come from wherever it genuinely lives — a policy page, a product spec, a help article.

AI customer support for restaurants
Restaurant enquiries arrive at exactly the moment nobody can answer them: during service, on a phone nobody can reach, from someone deciding right now where to eat tonight. Most of what they ask is already on the website. RubyRep reads it and answers instantly, on the site, while the decision is still open.
RubyRep is this, applied to your website.
Give it your URL and it reads your pages, then answers your customers from them.
