Readability checker
Paste your copy and see how hard it is to read.
Scores pasted text for Flesch Reading Ease and grade level, and counts the sentences over 30 words. Sentence length does most of the work in readability, so that count is usually the most actionable number here.
How it works
- 1
Words, sentences and syllables are counted, using the standard heuristic for syllable estimation.
- 2
Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid grade level are computed from those counts.
- 3
Sentences over 30 words are counted separately — they are almost always the fastest fix.
Questions about this tool
- What score should I aim for?
- Around 60-70 reads as plain English for a general audience. Technical writing sits lower and that is fine — the score is a signal, not a target to optimise.
- Does readability affect rankings?
- Not as a direct factor. It affects whether people finish reading, which affects everything else. Support content in particular has to be understood on the first pass.

How to automate customer support without making it worse
Support automation fails when it is applied to the wrong tickets. The reliable approach is to automate the repetitive, publicly-answerable layer completely, route everything else to a person quickly, and measure the handover rate rather than the deflection rate.
