URL slug generator

Enter a title and get a clean URL slug.

Free, no signup. We read publicly available pages and respect robots.txt.

Turns a title into a clean URL slug — lowercase, hyphenated, accents transliterated, punctuation removed. Also warns about the two things that age a URL badly: excessive length and embedded dates.

How it works

  1. 1

Accented characters are transliterated rather than dropped, so names survive.

  2. 2

Punctuation and symbols are removed, spaces become hyphens, and everything is lowercased.

  3. 3

We flag slugs over 60 characters and any containing a four-digit number, which usually means a date.

Questions about this tool

Should I put the year in a URL?
Almost never. A URL with 2026 in it looks stale in January 2027, and changing it costs you every link the page has earned. Put the year in the title, where you can update it.
How long should a slug be?
Short enough to read in a search result and to say out loud. Three to five meaningful words is usually right; stop-words rarely earn their place.
