What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?
Answer engine optimization is the practice of structuring content so that AI-powered answer engines can understand it, quote it accurately, and attribute it to you.
Search increasingly returns synthesised answers rather than links. AEO is the unglamorous work of making sure the facts about your business — what it is, who it's for, what it costs — are stated plainly enough to be quoted correctly.
Why it matters
If an answer engine can't find a clear statement of your pricing or capabilities, it will either omit you or infer something wrong. Clear, factual, well-structured pages are the defence.
Examples
- Stating a definition in the first sentence of a page rather than the fourth paragraph.
- Publishing pricing as text on a page instead of only inside an image.
- Using structured data so a machine can read the same facts a person reads.
Not the same as
SEO
SEO optimises for ranking a link. AEO optimises for being quoted correctly inside an answer. They overlap heavily — clear, factual content serves both.

What is AI customer service?
AI customer service means answering customer questions with a language model rather than a person. The useful implementations are grounded in a specific business's own content; the poor ones let a general model improvise, which produces confident answers that are wrong.

FAQ page vs AI search
An FAQ page is a fixed document answering questions in the phrasing its author anticipated. AI search retrieves from everything you have published and answers in the visitor's own words. The FAQ still earns its place for search engines and skim-readers — it just should not be the only route to an answer.
