What is FAQ schema?
FAQ schema is structured data using the FAQPage type, marking up a list of questions and their answers so search and answer engines can read them directly.
It is the most immediately useful markup on a support-content page, because the format matches how customers search. Someone typing a full question into a search box is asking for exactly what an FAQ block contains, and marking it up removes the engine's need to infer that the page holds the answer.
Why it matters
One rule decides whether it does anything: the answer must be visible on the page and complete in the markup. Marking up a question whose answer is truncated, hidden behind a click that loads new content, or present only in the JSON-LD makes the page ineligible — and the failure is silent, so a page can carry perfect-looking markup for a year and get nothing. Accordions are fine as long as the answer is in the HTML at load time. The second rule is honesty about who is asking: FAQPage is for questions a business answers about itself, not questions a community answers, which is a different type.
Examples
- A shipping FAQ where each answer is fully visible and fully repeated in the markup.
- A page whose answers load by JavaScript on click, which is not eligible.
- Three genuine questions marked up, rather than twenty invented ones nobody asks.
Not the same as
QAPage
QAPage is for pages where users answer each other, like a forum thread. FAQPage is for a business answering its own questions.

term
What is structured data?
A page's HTML says how content should look. Structured data says what it means: that this string is a price, that one is an author, that this block is a question and the next is its answer. Search engines and answer engines read it because it removes guesswork.
term
What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?
Search increasingly returns synthesised answers rather than links. AEO is the unglamorous work of making sure the facts about your business — what it is, who it's for, what it costs — are stated plainly enough to be quoted correctly.
term
What is zero-click search?
Featured snippets, knowledge panels and AI-generated summaries all answer questions in place. The share of searches ending this way has been rising for a decade and accelerated sharply once search engines started generating summaries rather than only quoting them.
tool
Website FAQ generator
Reads your website, extracts any FAQ content already published, and drafts the questions your pages answer but never state as questions. Output is copy-paste ready.
use case
FAQ automation that uses your real pages
A static FAQ page ages badly and never quite matches how people phrase things. Reading your whole site instead means the answer to a question can come from wherever it genuinely lives — a policy page, a product spec, a help article.
