Do you guarantee your work?

What trades and home service businesses need to publish

They are trying to distinguish you from the cheap quote that will not answer the phone in six months. This is the question that justifies a higher price, and most trades never answer it in writing.

How customers actually ask it

The same intent arrives in wording your page probably does not use. All of these mean the same thing:

  • “Do you guarantee your work?”
  • “warranty on the work”
  • “what if it breaks again”
  • “how long is the guarantee”
  • “is your work insured”

What a complete answer contains

For trades and home service businesses specifically, an answer is only complete when it covers all 5:

  1. 1

The guarantee period on labour, in months or years

  2. 2

That manufacturer warranties on parts are separate, and typically how long

  3. 3

What voids it — third-party work, missed servicing, misuse

  4. 4

How a claim is made and how quickly you respond

  5. 5

Whether the guarantee is insurance-backed, which is what survives the business closing

A worked example

Illustrative — not a real business

Labour is guaranteed for 12 months from completion. Parts carry the manufacturer's warranty, usually two to seven years on a boiler depending on the model. The guarantee assumes annual servicing on anything that requires it, and does not cover work later altered by someone else. Call and we will be back within two working days, or the same day if you have no heating or hot water.

What silence costs

You lose to a cheaper quote on price alone, having never given them a reason to pay more.
