Is this in stock?

What online stores need to publish

Stock is the last blocker before a purchase, and the answer expires — which is exactly why it must live in one authoritative place.

How customers actually ask it

The same intent arrives in wording your page probably does not use. All of these mean the same thing:

  • Is this in stock?
  • when will this be back in stock
  • do you have this in size M
  • availability
  • is it out of stock

What a complete answer contains

For online stores specifically, an answer is only complete when it covers all 4:

  1. 1

Live stock state on the product page itself, not just an answer in a policy document

  2. 2

A restock date or an honest 'we do not know yet' — a silent out-of-stock is the worst option

  3. 3

    A back-in-stock notification route

  4. 4

Whether stock is shared with physical stores, if you have them

A worked example

Illustrative — not a real business

Stock is shown on each product page and updates in real time. If an item is out of stock, use the Notify me button and we will email you the moment it returns — usually within three weeks for core lines.

Which page should own it

Product page, with a stock-notification route

What silence costs

Customers who cannot establish availability assume unavailable, and they do not come back to check.
