How to add Organization schema on any website platform

Tell search engines and AI assistants who you are, how to contact you, and which accounts are genuinely yours. The code is the same everywhere; where you paste it is not. This covers 35 platforms, 19 of which gate custom code behind a paid plan.

Why this matters

Every business page implies an organisation, but almost none of them state it in a form a machine can read. Organization markup names the entity, points at the logo, lists the contact routes, and — through sameAs — asserts which social profiles belong to you. That last part is what lets an answer engine distinguish your business from a similarly named one, which is the difference between being cited correctly and not being cited at all.

What you paste

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization",
  "name": "{{SITE}}",
  "url": "https://example.com",
  "logo": "https://example.com/logo.png",
  "contactPoint": [{
    "@type": "ContactPoint",
    "contactType": "customer support",
    "email": "support@example.com",
    "availableLanguage": ["English"]
  }],
  "sameAs": [
    "https://www.linkedin.com/company/example",
    "https://x.com/example"
  ]
}
</script>

Put this on your homepage only. Repeating it on every page does not strengthen the signal and makes conflicting values more likely.

Where it goes, by platform

The code is identical everywhere. The screen you paste it into is not, and neither is whether your plan allows it — 19 of 35 platforms require a paid plan for custom code.

How to check it worked

  • View source on the homepage and confirm the block is in the served HTML.

  • Run the homepage through the Schema Markup Validator and check there are no errors on the Organization type.

  • Follow every sameAs URL and confirm each one genuinely belongs to you — a wrong profile is worse than none.

What goes wrong

  • Putting Organization markup on every page. It belongs on the homepage; other pages should reference it rather than restate it.

  • Listing a logo URL that returns a redirect or a 404. Machines follow it.

  • Adding sameAs entries for accounts you do not control, which actively misinforms.

Questions

Organization or LocalBusiness?
LocalBusiness if customers physically visit you at an address with opening hours. Organization otherwise. LocalBusiness is a subtype, so you are not losing anything by using it where it genuinely applies.
Does this affect rankings?
Not directly. It affects whether a machine can confidently identify you, which is a different and increasingly more useful thing.

What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?

Search increasingly returns synthesised answers rather than links. AEO is the unglamorous work of making sure the facts about your business — what it is, who it's for, what it costs — are stated plainly enough to be quoted correctly.

term

What is AI customer service?

AI customer service means answering customer questions with a language model rather than a person. The useful implementations are grounded in a specific business's own content; the poor ones let a general model improvise, which produces confident answers that are wrong.

How to add an AI chatbot to Shopify

You add an AI chatbot to Shopify by pasting a script tag into your theme's theme.liquid file, just before the closing body tag. It takes about two minutes, needs no app install, and survives theme updates as long as you don't switch themes entirely.

How to add an AI chatbot to WordPress

The safest way to add an AI chatbot to WordPress is a code-snippets plugin or your theme's built-in footer-scripts field — not editing footer.php, which a theme update will overwrite. All three methods take under five minutes.

In Webflow you add an AI chatbot under Site Settings → Custom Code → Footer Code, then publish. The step people miss is publishing — custom code does not appear on the live site until you do, and it never appears in the Designer preview.

Squarespace has a Code Injection panel built for exactly this. Paste your snippet into the Footer field under Settings → Advanced → Code Injection and it appears site-wide. You need a Business plan or higher — Personal plans cannot run custom code.
